Author's Life
Lois Lowry was born on March 20th 1937 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She had one older sister and one younger brother. Her mother was a kindergarten teacher and her father was a military officer. She had learned to read at an early age as a result from her mother being a teacher and her older sister reading to her.
In 1948, Lowry’s family had to move to Tokyo, Japan where she attended a school for military families. Then after moving a few times, they briefly settled in Carlisle.
She attended Brown University for two whole years before getting married to Donald Lowry at the age of 19. They got four children, two daughters and two sons. Then in 1972 she completed her degree in the University of Southern Maine, Portland.
Now, she is a grandmother of four grandchildren. Whom she enjoys entertaining and also enjoys reading, knitting and gardening. She currently lives in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
